Why do I volunteer? The answer is simple. It makes me HAPPY!
It all started after a big career transition in my life. I began my own form of active therapy; pursuing my passions in nature and spending lots of time outdoors, such as hiking and bouldering. Even though I live in one of the busiest cities in the world, have a great job, and lots of friends, I was missing something. I didn’t feel that I was living up to my whole potential. I started volunteering at outdoor projects in city parks and beaches, meeting new people, and learning more about environmental issues that I care about.
I created my blog and an Instagram account to document and share my volunteer experiences in the New York City area. I’m hoping to inspire and empower others to explore the outdoor beauty this area has to offer, and to become aware of environmental issues and to join me in my cleanup efforts.
Recently I’ve added another layer to my volunteering efforts. In February of 2014, I was diagnosed with Endometriosis after my first laparoscopy surgery. After years of suffering with symptoms such as heavy menstruation, exhaustion, and abdominal pain, I became familiar with a world of this misunderstood disease that many women silently suffer through every day. Even though parts of this diagnosis have been difficult, I am determined. I won’t settle for less than the life that I want. And as I proceed with my volunteer work, I’d like to help raise public awareness about Endometriosis.
I’d like you to take a little while to follow me on my journey,

A very special thanks to:
My best friend, Danielle Martin for helping me with words, giving me encouragement, and believing in me – and reading my blog! :) I had no idea that sharing an apartment for a short time would give me such a wonderful friend for years to come!
Charles Chan Casela, my talented event photographer and friend, for capturing some of my amazing photos here on the blog and listening to my many ramblings about volunteering and failed relationships and reminding me that I am beautiful!
